Preparing for Christmas

For some it is a public holiday. For others it is a time to enjoy, party and be merry. For others, it is a time to make more business. The first Christmas was a singularly special time in the history of humanity. God chose to be born as a helpless little infant. The Church prepares herself during this season of Advent (Advent means coming) for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember His birth 2000 years ago during this time. The Mass readings are from the books of the prophets, about the coming of Jesus, Saviour, King and Messiah.

The readings are also about God working in people's lives and giving children to barren women. Yesterday, it was about the birth of Samson, and the birth of John the Baptist. After a lot of prayer, God promised that the mothers would bear sons, and these sons were dedicated to God and made a difference in the history of their time.
